3.3 Update from Principal Goss

Posted May 19, 2023

Dear Denver South Students and Families,

Our DPS Screening Team is planning to visit South on March 21 – 23 to provide our state mandated health screenings for our 9th graders. This year we will be screening students in all mandated grades (ECE, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th). Students will have the opportunity to receive a vision, hearing and oral health screening.

You must notify your school nurse directly should you wish to REFUSE/OPT OUT of any of the free screenings for your student.

Nurse Sara Worley can be reached at (720) 423-6102 or sara_worley@dpsk12.net

We would also like to highlight our students and their accomplishments these past few weeks.

Congratulations to Hayden Ferrandino for winning the DCPA playwriting competition out of 179 students across the state of Colorado.  Her play will be performed at the DCPA playwriting summit.

This past weekend DECA traveled to compete in state competitions. Congrats to Graham Goodson, Sophie Ratana, Ella Draper, and Eva Shapiro for qualifying for nationals.

For the past 11 years, Denver South has brought in war veterans to share their stories with our students. Click here to read more about the event.

Parents, please remind your students to bring their charged chromebooks to school everyday. We do not have extras to supply students.

Have a great weekend.

Go Ravens

We are Denver South

Sincerely,

Principal Goss

Now you can purchase the winning shirt! Buying a shirt will raise money towards a benefit that the students from the class selected for our school. Their goal is to have more outdoor places to sit to enjoy our beautiful campus.

Shirts will be available for pre-order for a limited time only starting March 6th.

A local professional artist, Dona Laurita, has spent the past several months tirelessly interviewing and photographing our students and two of our language interpreters, Malika and Rana Azad, to create this amazing art exhibit. The opening night is March

PTSA Meeting – NEW DATE **Wednesday, March 15th at 6:30pm**

South Career Center, Rm 114A

Ravens Gear School Store

The PTSA would like to officially launch a mobile School Store at South.  Selling Ravens gear is great for our school spirit, it helps continue to support the rebranding of South and it’s fun!  Running a school store is a bit like running a small business.  You have ordering, inventory management, pricing, marketing, sales, volunteer/”employee” management, operational process, and financials.  It is an amazing opportunity for high school students to see first-hand how to run a business!  They will then be able to share these experiences in college essays or job applications.  We have parent volunteers who will purchase merchandise, but for the store to be successful, we need more parent and student help (especially organizing and selling gear).  If any parent is interested, contact:  Danielle Vitale, PTSA President at dvitale@adobe.com or ptsadenversouth@gmail.com.

Prom & After Prom UPDATE

The date for prom has been set…Saturday, May 6th from 8-11pm.  After Prom will be at Dave & Busters from 11pm-2am.  There will be food, games and lots of fun!

Sign up HERE to receive PTSA weekly emails. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram or our Website.  Questions?  Email us at ptsadenversouth@gmail.com.

Giving Grocery The Denver South Giving Grocery is open to students after school every Thursday in Room 141.  The Giving Grocery provides free groceries, including fresh produce, meat, milk, cereal, and personal care items to South students. No registration is required, and all students are welcome!
