Dear Graduating Seniors and Parents:

We want to provide you with an update on the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2022. While we are working through a pandemic and restrictions change often with DPS, we want to make sure we provide the seniors with a formal and special graduation ceremony. I have been working all fall semester trying to lock in a venue that would allow for the most participation of our families since Red Rocks was unavailable. Our choices were to stay at All City Stadium with capacity limitations or move the date and have commencement at the University of Denver. As an administrative team and school leadership team, we decided to move the day and time in order to provide the students with the ceremony they deserve. We understand and recognize that travel plans have been scheduled for the original time and apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We are really looking forward to celebrating our graduating seniors of the class of 2022 on Tuesday, May 17th at 2:00 pm at the University of Denver. The last day of school for seniors is now May 13th.  We will have our senior check-out and our Senior Car Parade.

TICKETS:

At this point in time, students do not need tickets and there are no guest limitations. We will keep families updated if this changes. We are closely monitoring DU and the restrictions they have in place as those are the guidelines we need to follow.

APPROPRIATE AUDIENCE BEHAVIOR:

The high school graduation ceremony is a once in a lifetime occasion for students to be recognized for achieving academic requirements set forth by the school and community. This ceremony marks the completion of thirteen years of public education and the beginning of future adult paths. We are proud to celebrate this special occasion; however, because of the importance attached to the occasion, we ask that our pride be demonstrated with dignity.

CAPS AND GOWNS:

Caps and gowns will be distributed to graduating seniors in the main gym on Friday. May 13th at the end of Senior Checkout and our graduation rehearsal at South. If your child does not receive their cap and gown or is unable to attend graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 13th, they will need to make arrangements with Ms. Meredith Barrow prior to graduation on May 17th.

To purchase a cap and gown, click the link here if you have not already done so.

CEREMONY & REHEARSAL DETAILS:

The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2022 will be held at University of Denver, Magness Arena on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 2:00 pm.

There is also a mandatory rehearsal at DU in Hamilton Gymnasium on Tuesday, May 17 at 11:45 pm. We need seniors to arrive at 11:30 am.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:

Please dress appropriately:

Graduates are permitted to decorate their caps. Please refrain from decorating caps with any items that break school and district policies (drug or alcohol paraphernalia, inappropriate language, etc.)

Graduates are asked to leave all personal items with a family member or in their vehicles, as no items, including cell phones, are to be carried with them at the rehearsal or the ceremony.  If items are brought, they will be collected and held until after the graduation ceremony.

PARKING:

There is on campus parking available but for a cost. We are working to provide transportation to families from South and will update our community as soon as we receive approval.

GRADUATE SEATING:

Graduates will be required to know their row and seat number.  All graduates will be seated alphabetically by last name and will be put in order when they arrive at Hamilton Gym at DU.

PROHIBITED ITEMS BY THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER:

These items are not allowed in Magness Arena or in the Ritchie Center–their staff will search bags upon arrival.

GUEST SEATING:

Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis for everyone.  Plan to arrive in time to park and be seated as the ceremony will begin promptly at 2:00 pm.  Groups who wish to sit together should plan to arrive at the same time.  DU Security will be actively monitoring the seating area and will remove any signs or other saved seats.  Doors will open at 1:00 pm for South’s graduation.

PHOTOGRAPHS:

Professional photographers from Grad Images will be photographing each graduate’s picture as he/she is presented a diploma as well as an individual photo with the diploma.  Proofs will be mailed approximately one week after graduation.  There is no obligation to purchase the photos. Please check the website for proofs.  Only staff, faculty, graduates and DU Personnel will be allowed on the arena floor during the ceremony.

RECESSIONAL:

Following the ceremony, graduates will recess to the Hamilton Gymnasium where they will pick up their diplomas as well as retrieve any personal items.

Family members can meet their graduates on the west side of the Ritchie Center near the soccer stadium.

CONCESSIONS:

At this time, we are uncertain whether concessions will be open to the public.

Sincerely,

Meredith Barrow Bobby Thomas

Activities Director Principal
