Update from Principal Thomas

Dear Denver South Students and Families,

This week in Seminar, your student received information on how to pick their classes for next year. Starting Monday, students will have 1-1 meetings with their counselors to review the updated course catalog, their on-track-to-graduate status, and their post secondary goals. These 1-1 meetings will take place during English classes and are on a set schedule; please do not reach out to counselors to set up 1-1 meetings. If your student misses their 1-1 slot during English, the counselor will reach out to the student for a make-up meeting.

We hope everyone continues to stay safe during this time. Please keep your students home if they are experiencing any symptoms for 5 days. You can now order free at home COVID tests using this link: http://covidtests.gov/

You will be able to order up to 4 tests per household starting next Wednesday.

Be sure to review the updated guidance documents and the Decision Tree.

You can access current and past communications, as well as other important information on our website

Have an excellent three day weekend!

Go Ravens!

We are Denver South!

Sincerely,

Bobby Thomas

Principal, South High School

Denver Health Pediatric Clinic at South High School is happy to support South Athletics in two ways:

  1. We are offering free Physical Exams and Sports Clearance in advance of the Spring Sports Season which begins February 28, 2022.  Please double check the expiration date of your sports physical and schedule an exam on the expiration date by calling our South Mainline at 720-423-6260.  We have plenty of appointments available.   If your parents/guardians have not completed a consent form, please have them fill one out online https://www.denverhealth.org/services/school-based-health-centers/e-consent.
  2. We want to help athletes avoid unnecessary quarantines during the sports season by ensuring as much protection as possible from COVID-19.  DPS guidelines state that following an exposure, students may be EXEMPT from quarantine if they have:
    1. completed the primary series of Moderna or Pfizer within the last 6 months and it has been 2 weeks after the final dose OR
    2. They have been boosted OR
    3. They have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days.

To schedule an appointment, call Denver Health South at 720-423-6260 or contact the main school-based number at 303-602-8958.  Vaccinations can also be scheduled online at https://covid19.colorado.gov/kids-vaccines.   We are happy to answer vaccine questions.  Take care of yourselves.

SAT

Our 11th grade students will take the SAT in April. They have the option to take the essay portion of the test. The students must opt in for the essay. The essay registration window is Jan. 17 – Feb. 15, 2022. This will be the only opportunity for students who wish to take the optional essay to add it to their April school day test registration. Students may add the essay to their registration through their online College Board account or by calling the College Board.

Ceramics Program

The Ceramics program is in search of newspapers. The students use the newspaper to help keep their projects hydrated when working between classes. As people aren’t receiving printed newspapers as commonly as they used to, the ceramics program has found itself in a shortage of newspapers. If you do in fact still receive the printed newspaper will you please save it for the ceramics program? Donations can be dropped in the main office addressed to Kim Beckeman. Thank you so very much in advance!!
