Update from Principal Thomas
Dear Denver South Students and Families,
We hope you all had a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving break with your loved ones. As we wrap up the semester, please encourage your students to attend all classes and turn in missing work.
Our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) raises more than $100,000 in funding going to our school every year. This includes; funding teachers with mini-grants, meeting the needs of all students, whether that is through academics, arts, athletics, and/or activities. This year, your PTSA is helping our school transform our gym lobby into Ravens Landing, a community space for students, staff, alumni, teachers, and friends of South. The difference between a great school and a great school community is strong relationships between teachers, staff, students, and parents. Every voice is needed at the table to grow and sustain our strong community. You can learn more about our PTSA by clicking here. Parents have the opportunity to join, volunteer, attend a meeting or a virtual parent education event after winter break. We want to thank you for all the support and donations you have already contributed.
You can click here to donate to this year’s fundraising campaign.
We would also like to remind families about our health and safety guidelines and the importance of reporting if they have symptoms to nurse Andy. Being vaccinated and/or boosted doesn’t prevent individuals from getting COVID, it only lessens the impact of COVID if an individual catches it. Vaccinated or not, everyone needs to wear a mask when indoors, keep distance from one another, and report if they have symptoms.
You can access current and past communications, as well as other important information on our website.
Have an excellent weekend!
Go Ravens!
We are Denver South!
Sincerely,
Bobby Thomas
Principal, South High School

Whole Child
I Matter Program: Colorado House Bill 21-1258 established this temporary behavioral health services program to provide access to mental health and substance use disorder services for youth, including addressing needs that may have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is open to youth 18 years of age or younger or 21 years of age or younger if receiving special education services.
The program, called I Matter, is funded by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health. The program provides up to 3 free behavioral health sessions for youth in Colorado and reimburses participating providers, which are licensed clinicians from agencies and independent contractors.
Athletics
Boys basketball started off the season hot with a big win over Lakewood. They travel to heritage high school tonight in hopes to continue their winning streak. We can’t wait to see what else they have to offer!
Girls basketball suffered a tough one point loss on Tuesday against Lakewood, but bounced back and took down Westminster high school in the Westminster tournament. The girls are set to return tonight to take on Legacy in their next tournament match up.
Girls swim and dive had their first league meet of the season and crushed it! South placed 3rd overall. Look for this squad to improve as the season goes on.
Wrestling has record numbers in both boys and girls wrestling teams. We look forward to seeing a young talented team become more successful throughout the season.
Student Mental Wellness Starts With Adults.
In the words of our dear friend and Program Advisory Board Member, Brittany Simone, we believe “well-being is our birthright.” As an organization, we’re committed to creating free spaces where educators can explore a variety of modalities to support their well-being. We’ve curated a variety of wellness leaders to help us explore well-being through different practices and modalities.
We have three remaining sessions of the year and they are must-try experiences. RSVP using the links below to receive a calendar invite and Zoom link:
