We are often able to schedule same-day or next appointments that are free to students and families. Putting the student – in student athlete
Eligibility requirements for Athletic Teams, Band, Orchestra, Speech Competition, Vocal Music, Student Senate, and Cheerleading are set by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) which governs all school activities for the state. To meet eligibility requirements:
In addition, coaches, counselors, and the Athletic Director will provide information about athletic requirements. Participation in activities such as student government, clubs, volunteer and community organizations, fine arts, and athletics is the final factor. Of importance is not how many activities you have joined, but rather how fully you participated and carried out your responsibilities.

A candidate for lettering in any sport must meet the following requirements:
Forfeitures and byes are not to count toward winning an award.
The principal and coach of the school concerned may award a 4-year meritorious service letter to a senior who has never lettered.

Requirements for baseball lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in baseball – a player must participate in half of the team’s innings. A pitcher must appear in 35% of the games.
Requirements for basketball lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in basketball – 20 quarters.
Requirements for cross country lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D Awards. In addition the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in cross country – competing in 5 varsity meets or placing 1st in any varsity, dual or triangular meet, or placing in the top 10 in the city meet.
Requirements for football lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in football – represent the school in 10 quarters of varsity contests.
Requirements for golf lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in golf – representing the school in 2 league matches and winning 2, playing in 4 matches, or playing in 2 matches as a member of the championship team.
Requirements for gymnastics lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in gymnastics – enter 75% of all scheduled meets. Place in the top 4 of 50% of all scheduled meets, or earn team points in 50% of all meets, or place in the top 6 places of the district meet.
Requirements for lacrosse lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in lacrosse – participate in 5 halves.
Requirements for soccer lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in soccer – 10 halves.
Requirements for softball lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in softball – a player must take part in 27 innings. The pitcher must take part in 15 innings.

Requirements for volleyball lettering – see League Standing Rules – General, II, B, C and D, Awards. In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in volleyball – a girl must participate in 50% of all scheduled varsity league games.

In addition, the following should serve as a guideline for receiving a letter in wrestling – wrestling in 1 league match and earning 6 points, wrestling in 2 league matches and earning 6 points, wrestling in 4 matches, or earning a fraction of a point in the city or state tournament.
Pay to Play Fees & Doctor Physical
Students must pay the athletic participation fee per season, per sport before being cleared to participate by the official start date. During pre-season, registration is not required. Students and their families will pay athletic Pay to Play fees online during their registration, which typically opens 3 weeks prior to the official start date.
All student athletes must complete online registration and obtain a physician’s clearance for participation in sports. These 3 items (online registration, payment, physical) must be completed by the student and his or her parents/guardians and returned to the Athletic Office before the student can participate in practice or competition. Physicals are valid for 365 days and are not accepted electronically or via email.

Families can obtain a physical through their family doctor, wellness centers such as Walgreens, or a Denver Health School-Based Center: School Based Clinics Denver South Clinic: 720-423-6260. You can print this Physical Form or turn in the paperwork that is provided by your Doctor.
If families do not have access to the internet or need assistance in navigating the system they are welcome to stop by the athletics office at South for help or call the FamilyID Help Line at 1-781-205-2800.
**If you are a transfer student from another high school, and will now attend Denver South, you must contact and meet with the Athletic Director James_davis1@dpsk12.net for further guidelines and paperwork.
Online Registration opens 3 weeks before the season, do not wait until the start date to register & get cleared.
DPS schools collect game admission generally for inside sports, and those held at All-City Stadium (basketball, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, wrestling, track)
