Marine Band Concert
Denver South High School is hosting an incredible, free concert by the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band on Thursday, October 17th, and the concert is open to the public! The Marine Band was founded in 1798 and has played for every president since John Adams. They tour the country annually, but only come to Colorado once every ten years, so this is a once-in-a-decade chance to hear them in Denver!

If you haven’t heard of this group before, they are the New York Philharmonic of the concert band world. The 60-70 musicians who will be on the stage are some of the best players in the country. This is an excellent chance to hear a phenomenal music performance at absolutely no cost.

For full details, please visit www.marineband.marines.mil/Tour. Free tickets are available starting Tuesday, September 17th at 6:00 am (limit 4 per request). Seating is general admission and ticket holders must be seated by 7:15 pm, the remaining seats will be released to the standby line at that time.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Kyle Dobbins, the Band and Orchestra teacher at Denver South High School, at Kyle_Dobbins@dpsk12.net

PSAT/NMSQT Testing in October

Why should students take the practice PSAT?

All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT in October.  The PSAT/NMSQT provides students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the test’s tasks and structures, practice test taking strategies, and identify their areas of strength and areas for growth.  In addition, teachers will use data from the pretest to inform their instruction and better meet the needs of students. Scores from the NMSQT can also help juniors qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.  You can find out more information about the National Merit Scholarship in this PDF.

Dates

  • 10th and 11th grade students will take the NMSQT test on October 9th.  Only 10th and 11th graders will report to school.
  • 9th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 test on October 15th.  Only 9th graders will report to school.
  • Make-up testing will take place on October 16th and 17th.

Important Information

  • Students need their school-provided Chromebooks to take both the NMSQT and the PSAT9/8.  Students cannot test on their personal computers.
  • Students who don’t have a school-provided Chromebook can borrow one on the day of testing.
  • Students should arrive at school by 8:15. Standard time rooms should be finished around 11:45, depending on when their room started the exam.
  • For students who are approved for accommodations, the release time will vary depending on the specific accommodations for which they are approved.

Scores

Students should be able to see their scores on the College Board website by the week of November 7, 2024.
