Athletic COVID Updates and FAQ

Athletics Update Friday 7/31

Current Status on Fall Sports: 
We appreciate your patience and flexibility as CHSAA and DPS continue to navigate the COVID crisis and the safety of our students and school communities.  Decisions continue to be fluid and we will do our best to update the South community as we receive information. 

Boys Golf
Is a GO per CHSAA and DPS to start our season as scheduled August 3rd!  Please access the Golf Welcome letter and Athletics Webpage (linked below) for general information and registration.  Tryouts will be held August 3rd – August 7th and then registration will be closed for this sport.

Boys Tennis and Softball
Have been approved to begin on August 10th by CHSAA, but final approval by DPS is still pending.  We will update the community via the athletics page on school website and the Tennis and Softball Instagram pages when we receive a final decision from DPS. 

Phase 3 Off Season Camps *update 7/31 at 5pm

*Students that participated/registered for Phase 1/Step 1, and/or Phase 2/Step 2, must re-register for Session 3.

Based on the updated guidance from Governor Polis and CDPHE, DPS has made a decision to allow in-person, voluntary off-season athletics conditioning for high school students.  This is the third step in a multi-step process of returning to competitive play. During this third step, there will be no indoor access and very limited equipment use, as well as strict health checks and sanitation procedures for all participants.
We have made this decision with the continued goal of protecting the safety, health, and wellness of our students, staff and families. We recognize that the Denver community has been greatly impacted by the COVID pandemic, and believe that this is a positive first step in bringing our athletes back together. Session 3 will run August 3-August 21, 2020. DPS leaders will then determine how to best continue our athletics programming based on current health and safety guidelines and input from fellow school districts.

Please review the informational information through the following link: Session 3 informational sheet, outlining the details of participant engagement, health checks and sanitation procedures required during this time.  Should you choose to participate, your guardian will need to complete the required Student Registration for Step 3, which includes the district waiver by 12:00pm on Monday, August 3.

Additional information regarding student and coach waivers, daily documentation, conditioning schedules, and site drop-off procedures will follow prior to Step 3 Activities beginning on Wednesday August 5, 2020.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your specific Athletic Director or coach.

Need a Physical? You can print thisBLANK – Physical Formor turn in the paperwork that is provided by your Doctor. Denver Health School Based Clinics are currently accepting appointments at Place Bridge Academy, call for an appointment: 303-436-4949. This year, parents are able to sign up their students electronically using a new Docusign E-consent. English: Consent  Spanish: Consent  Due to construction, Denver South High School Health Center plans to start accepting patients the week of August 24th, Phone: 720-423-6260. If you have a current physical on file with the Athletics Office, that will be reflected in your FamilyID account. The expiration date is the last updated hard copy we have received.
