9th Grade Academy

Welcome Class of 2024!

On behalf of Denver South High School, we are so excited to welcome you to your new home for the next four years. While we wish we could be in an in-person setting, we are looking forward to connecting with you virtually. Below you will find information about the upcoming week. 

August 3rd: 9th Grade Welcome Drive Thru at South High School from 8:00-12:00 pm. In order to control the flow of traffic, please arrive at the time slot dedicated to the first letter of your last name. 

  • Please have your masks on and stay in your vehicle at all times. South staff and your 9th Grade Academy teachers will be there to assist the distribution of some swag bag items. You will enter the parking lot by the baseball field and drive around to the front of the building. 
  • A-F 8:00-9:00
  • G-M 9:00-10:00
  • N-S 10:00-11:00
  • T-Z 11:00-12:00 

August 4th: The first official day of instruction. All students will participate in a Seminar Morning Meeting from 8:00-8:30 every day. This is where we will share important information to the larger group as well as conduct introductions of administrators and other important support staff. All links will be provided to students next week.

Our teaching staff has been working hard to create fun and interactive activities throughout the course of the week. We want to take time to also share with you our behavior expectations for students as they embark on remote learning this week as well as the first two weeks of school. 

Student Roles and Responsibilities: 

  1. Establish daily routines for engaging in the learning experiences outlined above.
  2. Identify a space in your home where you can work effectively and successfully.
    1. Advocate for times and areas where no one will bother you.
    2. Sit at a table or desk, if possible.
    3. Keep your normal school materials accessible.
    4. Follow the school dress code when engaging in video chats.
    5. Be aware of your surroundings; ensure that what is shown on your screen is within the confines of school rules.
  3. Regularly monitor Schoology for course updates and assignments.
  4. Engage in all learning with academic honesty. 
  5. Communicate proactively with your teachers if you cannot meet deadlines or require additional support.
  6. Comply with School Internet Safety policies including expectations for online etiquette.

Parents, please plan on attending our Virtual Town Hall on Thursday, July 30th at 6:00 pm for a Facebook Live event. We will be offering a Q & A session for 9th Grade Academy and will send out the link to families on Wednesday morning.
